Account rent, and how it comes back.

Updated October 2026By Fianto

On Solana, every account holds a small SOL balance, its rent, for as long as it exists. Subscribing opens an account, so the customer's wallet pays its rent, about 0.0014 SOL. After the subscription ends, the customer can close that account in the portal and get the rent back. Fianto never holds it.

What rent is

Solana stores data in accounts, and each account must hold a minimum balance of SOL that depends on how much data it stores. The balance is not a fee: it stays in the account, and comes back when the account is closed. It is set by the network, not by Fianto, and the same rule applies to every program on Solana, including the token accounts that hold USDC.

The accounts a subscription opens

AccountWhen it opensIts rent
The subscriptionEach time the customer subscribesAbout 0.0014 SOL, paid by the customer; it comes back when they reclaim it after the subscription ends
The wallet's authority account for USDCOnly the first time a wallet subscribes with USDCPaid by the customer once; it stays open for later subscriptions, and Fianto does not offer to close it

Rent depends only on an account's size, so it does not grow with the price of the plan. The hosted checkout shows the rent before the customer approves. A one-off payment opens neither account, so it costs no rent.

Why the customer needs SOL

Rent and network fees are paid in SOL, not USDC, so a wallet that holds only USDC cannot subscribe. Before asking for a signature, the checkout works out the SOL the transaction needs, the network fee plus any new account's rent, and says so if the wallet is short. The merchant pays no rent at all, and nothing is taken from the USDC the merchant receives.

After the subscription ends, the portal shows the rent waiting in the subscription account in SOL, so the customer knows what a reclaim returns before they sign it.

Reclaiming the rent

  1. The subscription ends: for example, the customer cancelled and the paid period ran out, or the last payment attempt failed.
  2. In the portal at fianto.xyz/my, the subscription shows when its rent can be reclaimed, and then offers Reclaim.
  3. The customer signs the reclaim. It closes the subscription account and returns its rent to their wallet, less the network fee. If they did not cancel it themselves, the portal first asks them to cancel it on Solana, one more signature; the reclaim opens once its current period there ends.

Nothing happens on its own: until the customer signs, the rent stays in the account. When a merchant ends a plan, the portal shows its subscriptions as ended by the shop and does not offer a reclaim.

Questions

Questions about rent.

Is the rent a fee to Fianto?

No. Rent is a balance Solana requires every account to hold. It stays in the subscription account, not with Fianto.

Why is the reclaim not automatic?

Only a transaction the customer signs can close their subscription account, so the portal offers it and the customer signs.

Fees and rent, shown before anyone signs.

You never pay a network fee. Your customer sees every amount first.
